The Ma'ot Chitim of Greater Chicago helps needy Jews in our community to celebrate the holidays in a traditional and dignified manner. Members of Rodfei Zedek annually help in the delivery of Ma'ot Chitim (food packages) for the High Holidays and Passover. Delivery is on August 26. Packing perishables starts at 6:00 a.m.
The ninth day of the month of Av is the major day of communal mourning in the Jewish calendar. Although a large number of disasters are said to have befallen the Jews on this day, the major commemoration is of the destruction of the First and Second Temples in Jerusalem in 586 B.C.E.
“Researching Individuals with United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Resources” will be the topic of a presentation in the large auditorium at the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center, 9603 Woods Drive, Skokie. The speaker at this special event will be Diane Afoumado, chief of the Research and Reference Branch at the Holocaust Survivors and Victims Resource Center at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.
A member-led group from Rodfei Zedek will participate in the protest. Stragglers are welcome, of course.
