This American Shabbat is based on National Public Radio's This American Life. But rather than Ira Glass and a team of writers discussing a given issue, three members of the community offer their nuanced understandings of the week's Torah portion. These members will have studied the Parashat with Rabbi Minkus. Each will craft a D'var Torah that is shaped and informed by those discussions. The program challenges the participants, and all of us, to understand how our personal exploration of Judaism relates to the Torah.
The congregant-speakers for May 18 are Judy Chernick, Andrew Kirschner, and Lisa Kohn.
This American Shabbat is a community-wide program where we engage with each other intellectually, socially, and, of course, over food. So on each Friday night prior to This American Shabbat, we will have Shabbat dinners around the community. Please email Rabbi Minkus the previous week to let us know if you prefer to host or be hosted on Friday night so that more of our community will enjoy sharing a meal while getting to know each other a bit better.
Join us for inspiring words of Torah and the delicious company of old and new friends.
