Come sing with the Hyde Park Encore Chorale this fall! Have a blast with Encore Artistic Director Jonathan Miller and pianist Amy Wurtz. No audition. Check it out for free before joining.
The Fall session (Mondays, 9:30-11:00 a.m.) is now in progress at Congregation Rodfei Zedek, 5200 South Hyde Park Boulevard. There is limited free parking in the synagogue lot and street parking nearby.
The Hyde Park Encore Chorale is directed by renowned choral conductor Jonathan Miller, who is also artistic director and founder of Chicago a cappella and the high-holiday cantor at CRZ. Come experience a supportive and fun atmosphere in a non-auditioned choir. Encore likes to say that “we’re adults 55 and up, but we don’t care! ” All that is required is a willingness to work hard and a desire to sing. Rehearsals include stretching and vocal warmups as well as historical background on the music and pointers on musicianship and good breathing habits. Encore has seven Chorales in the Chicago area. Singers routinely report improved posture and breathing as well as higher overall vitality as a result of singing with Encore.
The 15-week fall session runs until December 4, concluding with a performance at Montgomery Place (date tba) and the all‑Encore performance for combined choirs at Fourth Presbyterian Church, 126 East Chestnut, on Thursday, December 14th (noon call time, 2 p.m. performance). Holiday repertoire includes traditional and new music for Christmas and Chanukah, including a new Wacky Christmas Carol.
Register online (www.encoreillinois.org) or at the next rehearsal. Registration is $175; it includes sheet music, practice CD, conductor and pianist. Payment plans and need-based scholarships. New singers are always welcome to visit for a rehearsal to see if it’s a good fit. Most importantly, come join–you’ll be glad you did.
