We launch the 5778 One Book, One Rodfei Zedek program, discussing My Father's Paradise: A Son’s Search for His Family's Past by Ariel Sabar. ISBN 978-1565129337 (Paperback).
Please join us for our first discussion of the year! We'll consider the first two sections in the book, Introduction and Zakho, which discuss the genesis of the book and explore the lives of the author's great-grandparents, grandparents, and his father as Jews living in late 19th- and early 20th-century Kurdistan.
If you would like some more historical background, click here for the Encyclopedia Judaica's entry on the Jews of Kurdistan. For more on the author, go to the official website of Ariel Sabar, winner of a National Book Critics Circle Award for this book.
To purchase: The Seminary Co-op Bookstore is ordering copies for congregants to purchase. Also available via Kindle.
One Book, One Rodfei Zedek is meant to stimulate conversations, both formal and informal within our community. My Father's Paradise will inspire a series of explorations of its content and context throughout the coming year. Keep an eye out for announcements about future events as well, as we continue to work our way through the book.
Save time after the discussion to visit the Gift Shop's Hanukkah Fair for candles and gifts!
