Lag B'Omer

Thursday, May 3, 2018

Lag BOmerOne year students made a sculptural bonfire to mark the celebration of the holiday of Lag B'Omer.  First they discussed how we count the omer every day from the second night of Pesach until Shavuot.  They then discussed how the 33rd day is a different from the other days, and how we use this day to remember Rabbi Shimon Bar Yocahi and the spiritual light he brought to the world.  The students learned that Jews light bonfires on Lag B'Omer to commemorate the fact that during the Bar Kochva rebellion bonfires were used to relay messages between the Jewish fighters.  Everybody became excited and involved in building our beautiful bonfire, using cardboard, paper, cellophane, paint, glue, tape, and many other materials.
