On Friday night, May 17, prior to This American Shabbat, we will again have Shabbat dinners in members' homes around the community. Please email Rabbi Minkus if you would like to host or be hosted at a meal around the community. It is a great way to get to know your community better and further enjoy the beauty of This American Shabbat The deadline to let us know if you would like to do either is Tuesday, May 14. Rabbi Minkus does the mixing and matching. Please join the community as we transcend geographic, generational, and culinary divides.
This American Shabbat is based on National Public Radio's This American Life. But rather than Ira Glass and a trio of commentators discussing a theme from various perspectives, members of our community will offer each individual's nuanced understanding of the week's Torah Portion. Judy Chernick, Andrew Kirschner, and Lisa Kohn have studied Parashat Emor with Rabbi Minkus and crafted divrei Torah that shaped and informed by those discussions. The program challenges the participants, and all of us, to understand how our personal exploration of Judaism relates to the Torah.
This American Shabbat is a community wide program where we engage with each other intellectually, socially and, of course, over food. So please join us for inspiring words of Torah and the delicious company of old and new friends.
Service begins at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 18.
Torah reading begins at 10:30 a.m.
