The 15th of Sh'vat is referred to in the Mishnah as the New Year of Trees (ראש השנה לאילנות, Rosh HaShanah La'Ilanot). Although it doesn't have the status of a holiday, Tu BiShvat is a day that Jews observe by way of custom. This holiday can be celebrated by planting trees, eating fruits, and having a Tu BiShvat Seder, a ritual that began with the kabbalistic masters of the 15th century. Tu BiShvat is a fine time to think about relating to the natural world.
