Morning Book Group | Mah Jongg

Dawn Rubin Torah Study Institute May 2014Rodfei Zedek Sisterhood continues our 100+ year tradition of enhancing congregational life through programming and fund-raising activities.  Our monthly Monday afternoon meetings provide educational and entertaining programs, open to women and men of the Congregation and their friends, as well as the greater Hyde Park community.  (More)

Our first program was on October 16, when a representative from the Anti‑Defamation League spoke on anti‑semitism in Chicago and what we can do about it.  See this year's developing programs.  Our book group that meets monthly on Monday mornings welcomes new readers and visitors.  We also have fun playing mah jongg on Tuesday afternoons year-round.

If you would like to become a Sisterhood member, you can join at any of our open meetings or contact our synagogue office.

Sisterhood also raises funds to subsidize congregational programs.  You can help…

  • by doing your gift and holiday shopping at the Nelson Judaica and Gift Shop, where profits support Sisterhood contributions to the Congregation.  The Gift Shop provides items both basic and amusing; use our catalogs to find your perfect purchase.
  • by participating in our High Holy Day Greetings program.  Thanks to all of you who have added your names to the New Years Greetings listed in the fall Rodfei Zedek Welcome Book.  Thanks to Sheila Schwartz for her fine work on this project!
  • by making honor contributions throughout the year.  Our Social Secretary sends personalized messages to your family and friends when you make a contribution to Sisterhood in their honor.

We also have an ongoing collection of unused travel-sized cosmetic and toiletry items which we donate to a local women's shelter.  Please leave them at the office.
