Prayer: Friday Night

SHABBAT KABBALOT

We welcome Shabbat every Friday night at 6:00 p.m. except during July.  Lay-led, the service and melodies vary from week to week.  Check with the office (773.752.2770) for more information.

Some of our congregational dinners are paired with special programs, as Rodfei Zedek explores different ways for our community to come together and welcome Shabbat and festivals.

Shabbat Dinners

Congregational Dinners
Celebrate special moments of the Jewish calendar as the whole community comes together for celebrating jewish Diversity by cooking foods from around the world and learning about these communities.  Families will also bring their traditional or non-traditional family recipes with the history or stories behind them…and additionally other Shabbat and Holiday-Themed meals such as Friday night dinners for Chanukah, Tu b’Shvat, Purim, before Pesach, Shavuot.

Once a month we will have a Friday night ruach (spirit) your family will remember for years to come. We will study the Parashat ha Shavua (weekly Torah portion) during these Community dinners.  Everyone is welcome.  We will need you to participate in the cooking-let Diana know at LearningCommunity@rodfei.org  if you are available.  Services are at 6:00, preceding dinner.
By reservation throughout the year:  September 24, October 8, November 12, January 21, February 25, March 11, April 15, and May 20.  In July we enjoy a Shabbat al fresco at a congregant's home (in 2010 on July 23; 2011 date tba).

Shabbat Chavurah
Shabbat Chavurah is a way to enjoy a leisurely shabbat evening with a participatory service, catered dinner, and good conversation.  We often agree beforehand on a topic to discuss, usually one that lets us get to know each other better and enjoy each other's various experiences of Jewish life.  Everyone is welcome (including children), but we tend toward the sedate and mature (that is, middle aged).  Please join us for a quietly convivial shabbat experience.
By reservation about once a month:  2010-11 dates tba.  Dates may change, so check with the office to confirm the date and make a reservation if you're going to stay for dinner after services.
